Minolta Maxxum QTsi 35mm SLR Camera Kit w/ 35-80mm Lens

The Minolta Maxxum QTsi is the easiest-to-use single-lens reflex camera in Minolta's Maxxum product line. It handles and operates similarly to a fully automatic point-and-shoot camera, but provides the picture quality and system flexibility that only an SLR camera can offer. It is a camera you can grow with by adding lenses, flash units, and accessories.

The Minolta QTsi features a detachable 35-80mm lens, selectable automatic or manual focus, a built-in pop-up flash with four modes, a self-timer, and TTL-type metering. It also offers programmed autoexposure with an additional five modes for portraits, landscapes, close-ups, action shots, and night portraits. Film transport is automatic as well. A large on-body LCD panel displays exposure mode, battery condition, mode selection, and whether manual focus or autofocus is selected.

In the box, you receive the Minolta Maxxum QTsi body, a Minolta lens and lens cap, an adjustable neck strap, a user's manual, and warranty information. I'm not going to insult you by teaching you how to put a battery into a camera. That's something pretty much anyone can do without help. As long as you follow the diagram and put the batteries like it shows there, you'll be OK. What I am going to teach you here is how to boost the battery life, since taking photos can be taxing even on the best digital camera batteries.

Use rechargeable batteries to save money

When a camera takes AA batteries, there is a good chance it will accept rechargeable batteries as well. You will have to pay more for batteries that are rechargeable, but in time you will save money. If you use regular AA batteries, in a month you can easily go through a megapack of them.

Here are some facts about batteries that are rechargeable:

There are two main types of rechargeable batteries: NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) and NiCad (nickel cadmium). If you want the best possible performance from your batteries, you should go with the NiMH. Still, if you already have NiCad lying around in the house, you can use those as well.

If you want to use it while you're away doing business or in a vacation, you might want to consider a charger for small format batteries . The price of such a charger is around and it comes with a four battery pack to get you started.

Depending on the charger, some batteries will be charged quicker than others. The package of the charger should indicate how fast it works. But, if you want a battery to recharge faster, you will probably pay more for it.

You should buy a second set of rechargeable batteries. Even if one of them is in the charger, the other one can be used.

Even though a rechargeable battery is fully charged, if you leave it for a few weeks it will lose some of its power. In time they will discharge completely.

Even if you plan everything well, eventually you will be in a situation where your battery is dead.

Battery power preservation

The current technology makes sure that cameras deplete batteries slower than before. Still, a digital camera will consume more power than a film camera, because they have a lot of extra features.

All digital cameras show a battery icon on their screen, which tells you that everything is OK when it's full and that you will run out of battery juice when they're almost empty.
